On November 16-17 2011, the OpenScout member Stefaan Ternier from the Open University of the Netherlands organized an OAI-PMH workshop in Heerlen. The event has been highly successful. As a result, eight new OAI-PMH targets are now available offering relevant content for the OpenScout portal learn.openscout.net. The Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) is a standard for accessing metadata from repositories. This standard is used in OpenScout to enable users to search in multiple high-quality business and management learning repositories from one website.
During the workshop participants were instructed on how to easily program and set up OAI-PMH targets with a software toolkit developed at the Open Universiteit. The participants not only created eight new targets for OpenScout but also developed a DC/LOM bridge that enables translating existing Dublin Core repositories into the OpenScout LOM metadata application profile. This bridge has the potential to enable integrating many more existing OAI-PMH targets into OpenScout.
If you offer a repository or Website with high-quality open content for business and management education we invite you to share it through OpenScout. OpenScout is happy to assist you in building the OAI-PMH target. Contact us for more information!
